As a lifelong bird parent and rescuer, I know firsthand the joy, laughter, and deep connection that parrots bring into a home. I’ve also seen how misunderstood they can be, and how easily they end up without the stability they deserve.

I started this nonprofit to help birds find more than just a home — to help them find the right home. One built on understanding, patience, and respect for who they are. By supporting adopters and fellow rescuers, my goal is to create lasting matches that honor both the bird and the family welcoming them in.

Because when the right bird meets the right person, it isn’t just an adoption — it’s the beginning of a lifelong bond.

My wife’s journey as a bird rescuer began when she welcomed her first ringnecks into our home and gave them the love and stability they had been missing. Watching them settle in, trust again, and truly thrive changed everything for us.

When she later rescued a Galah, that bond only deepened. One day, in the middle of an ordinary moment made extraordinary by birds being birds, she said something that stayed with me:
“Can you imagine how incredible it would be if someone else could feel this too — the everyday joy of being loved so completely?”

That question became the spark. It’s what led us to start this rescue — not just to save birds, but to help others experience the same connection, purpose, and unconditional love that fills our home every single day.

Our Story

Our Story

Safe Perch Exotic Avian Rescue was founded out of a lifelong love for birds and a growing need we saw right here in our own community.

I am an Army veteran, and my wife and I have shared our lives with birds for as long as we can remember. Over the years, our flock has grown not just in size, but in meaning. Birds are not just pets to us — they are intelligent, emotional companions who form deep bonds and bring an incredible amount of joy, trust, and connection into a home.

Our journey into rescue became personal when we adopted our Galah and two African Greys from a rescue organization. With patience, education, and intentional care, they became fully integrated into our flock and our family. Experiencing that transformation firsthand made one thing very clear: every bird deserves a safe landing and a chance at a stable, loving home.

As we became more involved in the bird community, we began to notice a troubling pattern. People who could no longer keep their birds were often trying to rehome them through unsafe or uninformed methods — online listings, rushed handoffs, or situations that put the bird’s health and well-being at risk. There was a clear gap between good intentions and safe outcomes.

Safe Perch was created to help close that gap.

Our goal is not only to rescue and rehome birds, but to support the people who love them. Through education, guidance, and foster-based care, we help individuals become confident, informed “Parronts” — parents of parrots — who understand the responsibility, commitment, and reward that comes with sharing life with a bird.

Looking ahead, we envision a future where birds in need are fostered within our local community, cared for in calm, home-based environments, and thoughtfully matched with their forever feather homes. A future where fewer birds are passed around, abandoned, or misunderstood — and more birds are truly cherished for life.

That future starts with one safe perch at a time.
